Our Values
Sheringham is a values driven school, but we also believe that our values are complex and not easily summed up in a few words.
Sheringham is a school that constantly thinks, talks and questions, considering which values to prioritise in any given situation, and how to make this an active and explicit process for ourselves, our children, staff and school community.
You’ll learn a lot about how we learn at Sheringham and what we think is important by reading the different sections of this website. Here are some of the headlines!
Learning In Harmony
This is our school motto and it refers to the fact we learn better together.
We have a highly collaborative culture where staff and children respect each other and work as a team to learn the best we can. ‘Learning partners’ is a highly successful strategy that we use in every lesson, to ensure that learning is an active, challenging process. All staff work in teams, to support and challenge each other, which helps us achieve highly and makes for a fun workplace!
Some of the words and phrases you’ll hear a lot at Sheringham are:
Growth Mindset
We believe, and our children believe, that almost anything can be learned with sufficient time and effort. We dislike putting children in boxes with terms like ‘clever’ and ‘low-abilty’ and instead encourage children to be resilient in the face of challenge, and persistent in reaching their goals.
Respect
While we enjoy a relaxed atmosphere at Sheringham, our excellent behaviour is due to a climate of shared respect. We are a multi-cultural school where difference is valued and rules are followed out of a sense of shared responsibility.
We believe that we have a responsibility to ensure that all our children succeed – not in a quick, superficial sense but in a deeper way where children can take the required skills and knowledge and apply them in complex ways.
Education is not a race to see who can get to the end the fastest – we believe that we can extend and support children within their own age group curriculum. This is how our children will be best prepared for secondary school and life beyond.
